In 2023, the TN YMCAs developed over 180,000 youth in their programming. One of the ways TN YMCAs impact youth development is through Y-CAP.

Y-CAP

The YMCA Community Action Project (Y-CAP) is an intensive intervention program for young people referred through the juvenile court system or the school system. Its aim is to help at risk middle schoolers turn self-destructive behavior into positive, healthy activities. Y-CAP focuses on working with parents and families, as well as the youth, and provides services at no charge to participants.

A structured curriculum is incorporated into Y-CAP to help build self-esteem so that participants make good and healthy future choices, learn how to problem solve, participate in group initiatives and deal with peer pressure. The challenges these children and families face are complex. The solutions do not come overnight. Y-CAP offers a wide range of services to each child and family, based on their needs to break the cycle of hopelessness and change lives for good.

Y-CAP services include:

  • Tutoring
  • Mentoring
  • Individual and Group Counseling
  • Recreation Activities
  • Values Education
  • Spiritual Counseling
  • Daily School Attendance Monitoring
  • In-home Family Intervention & Conflict Resolution
